Assignments & Notes

Create detailed practice assignments for each student, attach sheet music or audio, and keep lesson notes organized. Parents see published assignments instantly in the portal.

Creating assignments

From a student's Assignments tab, click + New Assignment to start building their weekly practice plan.

Each assignment is tied to a specific week and contains practice items.

Pick the week

The week picker defaults to the current week. Tap the arrows to move forward or back. Each assignment is tied to a specific week so parents always know what's current.

Add practice items

Click + Add Item to add pieces, scales, exercises, or warm-ups. Each item gets its own card where you fill in the details.

Save as draft or publish

Click Save Draft to keep working on it later, or Publish to send it to the parent portal right away.

Practice items

Each practice item is a single thing you want the student to work on. You can add as many as you like to an assignment. Here's what each field does:

Title

The name of the piece, scale, or exercise (e.g. "Minuet in G" or "C Major Scale").

Type

Choose from piece, scale, exercise, warm-up, or other. Helps parents understand the category at a glance.

Composer

Optional. Add the composer name if relevant.

Tempo

Set a target BPM so the student knows the goal speed.

Focus areas

Specific things to pay attention to — dynamics, hand position, rhythm accuracy, etc.

Notes

Free-text instructions. Use this for anything that doesn't fit the other fields.

Attachments

Upload PDF sheet music, audio demos, or video clips. Parents can view and download these directly from the portal.

Tip
You don't need to fill in every field. Title is the only required one — add details where they're helpful.

Publishing

Assignments start as drafts, visible only to you. When you're ready to share, click Publish.

Publishing does two things:

1

The assignment becomes visible in the Parent Portal, replacing the previous week's assignment as the current one.

2

An email notification and push notification are sent to the parent, letting them know a new assignment is ready.

Note
You can unpublish an assignment to pull it back to draft status. The parent will no longer see it in the portal.

Lesson notes

After each lesson, jot down what you covered, what went well, and what to focus on next. Lesson notes live on the student's Notes tab.

Lesson notes are listed chronologically with optional parent visibility.

Create a new note

Click + New Note from the Notes tab. The date defaults to today.

Write your notes

Use the text area to capture anything useful — progress observations, technique reminders, repertoire decisions. Write as much or as little as you like.

Set parent visibility

Toggle Visible to parent on or off. When on, the parent can read this note in the portal. When off, it's private to you — great for internal observations you want to remember but not share.

Save

Click Save. The note appears in reverse-chronological order on the Notes tab.
Tip
Use private notes for things like "struggling with rhythm but doesn't want to admit it" or "consider moving to a harder book next month." Keep parent-visible notes encouraging and actionable.
